Ho Ho Holidays

My mother just informed me yesterday that it had been a month since I last posted and my promise was to post every week, whoops! We have had a very eventful month; I went back to work, Thanksgiving and holiday parties.....

Ewan is now four months old and doing great! He hangs out with his nanny Josie and on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Josie has a son named Micah, he is three and is going to teach Ewan to be a "big boy." Ewan is grabbing everything and loves books, I know he is only four months but he truly loves to be read to.

Sean is as busy as ever at work and getting a few days off here and there, which he really enjoys. We have been up to the mountains a couple times this winter to hit the slopes, we take turns hanging out with Ewan at the ski lodge, he just eats up all the attention he receives from everyone.

We had Thanksgiving at our house this year for all the displaced Iowans. I was a little nervous to cook the turkey but our friend Stacey jumped in and volunteered to cook the bird, I gladly accepted. Everything turned out great and we all ate way too much. I finally have some photos that you all can enjoy.

It's Been Too Long

So I am sure that everyone has just stopped checking our blog since we have been slacking on our post, sorry. There is a lot to catch up on so I will start with Ewan, whom has jumped from 6lbs. to just about 14lbs. in 10 weeks. The doctor said there is no reason he should be waking up in the middle of the night to eat, since obviously he is getting plenty of food, I guess Ewan wasn't listening to this conversation since he still gets up twice during the night to eat. Ewan I are participating in mommy and me yoga, which basically means try to fit in as much yoga until your baby starts screaming, just kidding it is really cute. Sean and I are in complete awe over the little being we created, he is so mild mannered, just like his mom.....

We have had a lot of visitors over the last couple months and Ewan took his first plane ride to Kansas City to visit my family. Ewan loved the plane ride, he didn't cry once, in fact he was flirting with a young gal next to us the whole time, that is a Sean trait. For Christmas we are planning another trip back to Iowa to visit Sean's family.

Denver has been a buzzing city because of the Colorado Rockies, for those of you who don't follow baseball the Rockies made it to the World Series. We had tickets for all of the games leading up to the World Series but were not able to get any for the World Series itself, which was probably ok since they lost to Boston in four games. Ewan attended his first baseball game and slept through the whole thing which was pretty amazing considering there were fire works and non stop screaming the whole time, at what stage in life do we lose that ability!

I am putting off going back to work until probably December or maybe even January, my company has been very flexible with my return date which has been great. Sean is as busy as ever with work, one of his partners went to Greece for three weeks so he was extremely busy. We are debating if it's appropriate for a dentist to hand out candy for Halloween. So I think we decided to hand out candy and a toothbrush to all the kiddos.

My goal is to post once a week so keep checking out our blog!

10 Days for Baby Whalen

Sean and his patient Tommy

38 weeks prego

Last night Sean and I went to a Cirque du Soleil show, it was pretty amazing. We are trying to take advantage of our last couple baby free weekends. Last weekend we had my company picnic at the baseball stadium, it was a good game and we all had a great time. The office manager at work takes her son to see Sean, he thought it was pretty cool to be at a baseball game with Dr. Sean! Today Sean, Jeremy and I played "horse" on our mini basketball court. Their egos are probably severely damaged from getting beat by a woman 38 weeks pregnant and no they were not taking it easy on me....

Chloe ready for a stroller ride

Our cat Chloe finds it necessary to check out all of the babies items, she loves the stroller! Sean and I are wondering how funny we will look walking in the park with a baby and a cat. The count down is on for the babies arrival and we are getting very anxious.

Last weekend our friends had a couples baby shower for Sean and I, we had a blast. The shower was at a park in Denver so we had some lunch and just hung out for the afternoon.

Sean and I are finally all ready for baby Whalen to arrive. His room is all put together and now we can just sit back and relax.

Flowers

Baby Whalen has grown!
Sean's mother came into town over the weekend, it is always so nice to have her here. Friday we had a nice dinner with Sean's mom and Sean's aunt/uncle from Lafayette.
Baby Whalen is preparing for his entrance, last weekend he dropped from underneath my ribs to resting on my bladder. I thought the restroom visits were frequent before! We are getting very anxious to have another addition to our household.
Today I went to a baby shower for a girlfriend who is due a month after me. As many of you know, I am not into showers of any kind. I really don't know what happened to me but it began sometime around the age of four when I cried my eyes out when forced to wear a dress. Sorry, just not into the girlie conversation like the gasping "oh my god that is soooo cute." So today it took all my power to not run out of the house crying like I was four again.

Dan, Cecily and Sean
Mullet Man, Jonas, Steph and Aldo at the "White Trash BBQ"

Not much to report from the Whalen household, we have just been preparing for the baby to arrive. The room is finally complete and now we are just getting a few things here and there that we feel like is an absolute necessity if we have the babe tomorrow.
Sean and I had a fun 4th of July at a friends house and later that evening we had tickets to the Rockies game. Hope everyone had a great fourth of July weekend and I promise we will do something this weekend to talk about!

The Yankees in Denver

We had a very busy week this last week. The NY Yankees played in Denver for a three game series against the Rockies. Sean was so excited to see his favorite team playing here in Denver, even though they lost all three games. The stadium was packed which is a rare site, a lot of Yankee fans came out to cheer on their team. The most exciting part is that baby Whalen got to attend his first Yankee game and by the way he was kicking gave me the impression that he had a great time.
Last Tuesday night Sean and I started our baby class and we saw the "movie". I don't know why they insist on showing you the whole birthing process, it seems like something you would show a junior high sex-ed class to scare them into abstinence. As far as I am concerned everyone has their own experience and I certainly have a pretty good idea of what's going to happen.
Thursday night Sean and I went to a bbq cooking class and didn't learn anything besides how to eat bbq. We broke up into groups and made one item to serve for dinner, I got to snap the ends off asparagus and sprinkle salt and pepper on them. That skill should come in handy for our next bbq......We had a good time though and got to enjoy some good eats.

Hanging with Family

Sean and Jason
Macy, Banks, Peyton Grace, Ella and Jason

Last week we had family in town from Iowa. Sean's sister Darcy, husband Jason and three kids Peyton, Grace and Ella made a road trip to Colorado. On their way to Denver they stopped in Fort Collins to pick up Toni's two kids Banks and Macy. So Sean and I had a crash course in parenting 101. The kids were a lot of fun and everyone had a great time!

Jeremy and Sean

This is the new patio that the boys installed a couple weeks ago. They made eight trips to Home Depot and finished the patio in two days. The Whalen's now have a new patio and as of last weekend a basketball hoop as well. There has already been many games of horse played on the new court and I am sure this new addition will get some good use when baby Whalen is old enough to throw a ball.

There is a lot to catch up on, things have been a little crazy lately. My friend Beckie came to visit from Iowa for a few days. We had good girl time hanging out, shopping and looking for places for her to live when she ventures out this way. Sean and I are now official recruiters for the State of Colorado, we basically make everyone feel like idiots for not living here until they crack.
Last week Sean and I went to San Diego for a vacation before the little one arrives. It was a perfect, relaxing vacation with absolutely no agenda besides lying in a lawn chair. We did venture over to Tijuana for a day which was interesting, to say the least. We parked right by the border and walked over, pretty easy, walking back to the U.S., not so easy. When I first saw the line of people waiting to go through customs I thought for sure our baby would be born in Mexico. But we made it back and have lots of fun stories about the whole experience.
Sean plays on a co-ed softball team and they won their semi-final game last night. This is a huge victory for the Lawson Park Lushes, they have really improved since last year. Sean and I bought a Rockies(CO baseball team) package deal for every Wednesday home game throughout the season. Well this evening also happens to be ladies night, which means they play baseball bingo so the ladies actually pay attention to the game. This last Wednesday I actually won the Rockies bingo game!! Thought for sure I would be tripped and tackled climbing the stairs to claim my victory, but all the fans were gracious losers. The Whalen's now have a autographed baseball on our dinning table thanks to the bingo queen.

Sean and I on Mother's Day

Cara, Brandy and Stacey
Last weekend was finally eventful. Friday my friend Cara from Chicago was in town and we went to a Rockies game. Who won, I have no idea, didn't watch one second of the game. Everyone had a great time, once again I am the only one who actually remembers everything later that evening.
On Saturday Sean played in a University of Iowa alumni golf tournament at an awesome course nestled against the foothills. Playing golf from 11 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. pretty much wiped Sean out for the evening, so it was a early night on Saturday.
Sunday of course was Mother's Day and Sean was such a sweet heart. We had Mother's Day brunch, picked out flowers for our landscaping projects, went for a walk in the park and ended the day having a bbq with some friends. Even though I am not officially a mom yet, Sean made the day very special, I'm one lucky lady.

Tuesday, May 8, 2007

Ok so I do realize that the prego picture that I posted last week makes me look enormous, thanks to my mother's response. So I posted a more prego appropriate photo, not wearing a tent. You will notice in the background is our new piece of artwork we acquired, a sketch of Dick Cheney's head in a oil factory.
I did have a little scare last week when I took off my shoes and socks, than realized my socks were permanently indented into my ankles, gross. Is perma sock a side affect of pregnancy?

You know your life is changing when you spend the whole weekend outside manicuring the yard. Well I didn't, but Sean did. He has all sorts of projects going on, he can pretty much manage anything, I am so proud...This weekend we are making it a goal to not work on the house or yard, what will we do?

Sean preparing for baby Whalen, poor Chloe

New Prego Pic
The reason I haven't posted in awhile is because there is nothing too exciting going on in the Whalen household. The weather was gorgeous over the weekend, so we went to the park with some friends and played bean bags or "corn hole" for all those Midwesterners. Sean and I both got fried, it has been a painful week. Maybe this weekend will be a little more eventful. In the meantime here are some photos to keep everyone entertained.
