November

I know, I know, it has been way too long. Many of you have probably been checking our blog only to be disapointed by the lack of postings. Well, we are back and freezing cold....Brrrr, it's cold in Denver.

Ewan is 16 months old, can you believe it! He's such a big boy, 90th percentile for height and head size. It's confirmed, Ewan has the "Whalen" head. I'm so glad I had a cesarean.....

We took a little family trip to San Francisco for a few days in November. The Whalen's rode on cable cars, saw some art and traveled through wine country. Overall it was a good trip.

Sean's mom and brother came out to visit for a long weekend in November. Ewan was on his best behavior and didn't inflict any bite wounds on family members!

Thanksgiving we got together with some friends, ate way to much and enjoyed every minute of it. Now we are getting geared up to have my parents in town for Christmas.

I will post some photos as soon as I get my picture program to work again....Until then Happy Holidays to all!

Bumble Bee

Ewan participated in his first Scream Scram, a 5K race in costume. He was so stinkin cute in his bumble bee costume! We had a difficult time getting him to cooperate and wear his bumble bee hat, but we managed to slip it on for one photo....

Sean and I had our first big scare this morning when Ewan decided to take his Rescue Rider off the ledge and landed face first on the hardwood floor, yikes! He had a nose bleed that wouldn't stop. But fifteen minutes later he recovered and more importantly we recovered. Needless to say the Rescue Rider is outside permanently and only to be rode on flat surfaces, with a helmet and full face shield.

Weekend of Sweat!

Wow! The Whalen's pushed it to the limit this weekend. Yesterday we ran a race at the Denver Childrens Museum and Ewan participated in a infant crawl, so funny! Needless to say Ewan did not crawl anywhere, he was far to excited about the treats Sean and I got at the end of the race. Ewan just sat on the sidelines munching on a bagel and wondering why everyone was cheering for him.

To beat ourselves up some more, Sean and I decided to ride our bikes up Mt. Evans this morning. Yes folks I said up Mt. Evans! I thought for sure after mile three I was done, it was brutal! But after some coaching and motivation from Sean we made it 12 miles up the Mountain. So here are some photos Sean and I took on our cell phones, they are not very pretty but damn it you try riding up hill 12 miles while looking good.

First Birthday

Ewan turned 1 on August 15th and had a blow out party. He has also decided to support Obama in the upcoming election and has done a little print add work for the campaign. He is preparing for the Democratic National Convention coming soon to denver.

Midwest

We spent a week in the midwest: Davenport, Dubuque, Epworth, Chicago, Clearlake, Elkader etc.
Needless to say we are tired and happy to be home again, but it was great to see everyone. Ewan is completely mobile and a monster. He is still working on not biting his friends and family, but other than that he is a pretty good kid. Everyone is doing great enjoy the pictures.

Summer Time

Flowers!!!
Baseball Game
Beate and Ewan

Summer is here and we are loving it! Ewan is crawling and pulling himself up on everything...He has also started to eat his crib, yes folks he is gnawing at his crib like a beaver. It's really funny how every milestone makes Sean and I so proud. Even if that milestone is eating a crib or spitting food all over the kitchen, our hearts just swell with pride....Ewan is also very vocal, this morning he sat in his crib yelling DAD-DAD-DAD in different vocal tones, we were cracking up laughing.

Sean has been very busy tending to the yard and flowers, I included a photo of our roses in the front yard, they are gorgeous! I planted a small vegetable and herb garden which is also doing quite well but certainly not photo worthy. Nothing too exciting to report just enjoying the summer weather. Take care everyone!!

Mother's Day

Hope everyone had a fab Mother's Day! Sean's mom spent last weekend with us and we went out for a nice dinner on Saturday night. Here is a picture of Ewan at the restaurant playing napkin head...On Sunday the boys and I spent most of the day at the park just relaxing.

If you can tell by the pictures Ewan has five teeth, they just keep coming! Ewan went down for a nap a couple weeks ago and when he woke up there were two teeth on his upper palate. He has been a trooper teething, a lot of drool but he keeps his awesome demeanor through each tooth.

Sean has been doing a ton of planting and grooming in the yard, I think he is trying to win best yard on the block. Both of us have been very busy at work and try to get outdoors as much as possible in the evenings and weekends.

Happy May

Sorry for neglecting the blog, it has been a very busy last couple weeks...Ewan can say dada and mama now! He's still very disinterested in crawling, as my mother would say "why would you crawl when people just give you everything without having to move." Anyway, Ewan does roll and that seems to be the extent of his mobility for now.

So what else has been going on in the Whalen household? Well, we have done some hiking, biking and my mother came to stay for a week which was a ton of fun! Sean and I celebrated our five year wedding anniversary, we went out for a awesome dinner and didn't even have to pay $15 an hour for a baby sister, thanks mom. Sean's mom is coming this weekend and we are really anxious to have her here.

Today while others may have been enjoying the Kentucky Derby we went to see the Rocky Mountain Roller Derby, it was fantastic! The roller derby gals are bad mamas with names like Catholic Cruel Girl and Luscious Smacksome, I would highly recommend going to see the Rocky Mountain Roller Girls.

Copper Mountain

Cash Money
He is really a Yankee fan!
Copper Mountain

Brandy, Ewan and I spent a long weekend at Copper Mountain. Ewan enjoyed his baby sitter so much he was not even happy to see us when we came to pick him up after skiing. Brandy learned how to do jumps on her snowboard. Needless to say she is somewhat sore.

April Already??

Hey you get back here!

Ewan and Spencer

Oh the money pit!! Thought last weekend was going to be nice and peaceful, I was wrong. Sean went into the scary crawl space Saturday morning to fix some plumbing problems, five hours and two Home Depot trips later we had a professional plumber over to prevent water leakage all over our basement. The plumber fixed the interior problem in a mater of minutes and instructed Sean on how to fix our sprinkler system outside. So Sean recruited our neighbor Ken for his welding expertise and a few other neighborhood men to oversee the project, funny how the men come flocking when welding is involved. Everything worked out great and now our sprinkling system is all set for summer.
Saturday Sean and I had some friends over and they have a little guy whom is the same age as Ewan. It was so entertaining watching the two roll all over each other. Ewan is a boy through and through, he was growling at Spencer sending him into tears. I think he is going to be the neighborhood monster. My birthday is on Friday so the boys are taking me up to the Mountains for the weekend for some snowboarding and relaxation. Hopefully I will have some good stuff to post next week......

Spring Fever

Sean and I went out a couple weeks ago to see Leslie and the Lys, we had a great time! Leslie Hall is an Iowa native and absolutely hilarious, well worth the $80 spent on a babysitter. Shoot, I may start a babysitting service, they really rake in the dinero. Even better is that Ewan slept the whole time, she just got to hang out and watch television. I'm going to start feeding Ewan prunes before we go out so at least the sitter has to work for that $15 an hour. I'm not bitter......

Last weekend Ewan and I went to Missouri to visit my family, they were so excited to see Ewan and how much he has grown. Ewan was a little entertainer on the airplane, he was cracking everyone up. He is not afraid of strangers whatsoever, in fact I thought the couple next to me had plans to stuff him in their carry on and take him home, it was a little scary. The family is laying low this weekend so that probably means some sort of spring cleaning, yuk!

Some of you may have noticed some recent changes to our blog page and you are also probably wondering who Johnny Blade USA is.....Johnny Blade aka Alex Kanellis is the son of Sean's U of I Professor, Dr. Kanellis. Alex makes videos with his buddies and they are pretty funny so enjoy. We also posted some clips from The Office because it's our favorite show, if you are bored check them out.
The weather has been absolutely great in Denver and Ewan wants to be outdoors form the moment he wakes up until bedtime. We were thinking about placing an addition on our house but have now decided to just place a tent in the backyard for Ewan's bedroom. Sean's mother came into town last weekend so Sean and I got to escape up to the mountains for some snow fun, it was nice to be able to ski/snowboard together without one of us waiting with Ewan at the bottom. We captured the moment(above photo) via camera timer.......
Ewan had his first wrestling match with the neighbor boy over the weekend, it was hysterical, sorry we do not have photos. Tyler was all over Ewan and the whole time Ewan just lay flat on his back cracking up! I know pretty lame that Ewan went straight to his back but don't worry Sean will start training him as soon as he starts crawling. If Ewan is anything like his dad everyone better watch out, you never know when a Whalen will grab your leg and take you down...

Hot Springs and Rice Cakes

February has been a pretty fun month for the Whalens. Sean is going to be featured in 5280, which is a local magazine that Denverites live and die for. The issue is focusing on the best Denver doctors and Sean's practice was nominated by dentists in the area. So chalk that up to more celebrity fame for the Whalens, (for those of you who remember Sean and I were also on TV when Denver Real World tainted our city for a season, don't worry no hot tub scenes just harmless dining at the same restaurant).

Last weekend we took a road trip to Glenwood Springs to hang out with my aunt(Sheila) and uncle(Dale). Ewan got to take his first dip in the hot springs and let me tell you he had a great time. Sean and I just prayed that he wouldn't drop a load in the pool because since the introduction of food into his diet things are no longer infrequent and odorless, gross. Anyway we had a great time and look forward to getting our little swimmer some lessons this summer.

2008 So Far So Good

Hope everyone is having a great New Year! No big news here, just enjoying some down time and heading up to the mountains whenever we get a chance. So far January has been a month of visitors. Sean's brother Erin came to visit a couple weeks ago, Sean's mother Jo came the week following and my friend Cara came to visit last weekend. Everyone agrees that Ewan is a pretty awesome little man!!
As Ewan's care giver(Josie) would say "Ewan is Giant." He most certainly is getting big and very entertaining. Ewan loves to go for walks outside, even when I would prefer not to venture out in the chilly weather. He can now roll onto his tummy but gets extremely frustrated that he cannot crawl.
Sean and I have both been very busy at work, so we really enjoy our family time in the evenings.
